Just went through 2 yrs of HVAC and still learning. Came across a Lennox unit and the contactor will pull in rapidly several times and finally stay closed, no apparent loose wires, i have limited experience but I'm thinking it might be the 24v contactor going bad or at least the problem is on the 24v side. Any help?

this thread needs to be on the pro thread since we don't encourage do-it-yourselfers. You may not be, but someone looking 'over your shoulder' may be. The pro technical forum would be the best place to post this. All the best, John.

Measure the coil voltage when it's pulled in. Should be no less than 21vac for reliable operation. If it's lower than that, you have a control system problem.

Another possibility is the motor load is excessive and kicking the contactor back. Watch it pull in. If there is a lot of arcing, that may be the cause. In that case you could have a motor winding short or bad capacitor.
