Hi

can't remove the blower wheel from shaft on an Innovair minisplit. The wheel and the shaft seem to have joined like with a superglue, damn... The set ring is aluminum, the shaft is steel (and rusty).

Tried wd40 to no avail, also tried heating the set ring with a soldering iron set to 400C, no way.

The problem here is: the blower wheel has sort of ribbon ring where the set ring sits on (so it is flexible when you try to remove it). No mater how hard I pull it just bends this ribbon ring...

Any ideas? I serviced this unit 2 years ago and that wheel came off with no issues - had probably to add some Noalox or grease onto the shaft :/ Now it sits like glued.

Can you clean the shaft between the motor and the wheel with sand paper, then tap the wheel onto the spot you cleaned, then clean the rest of the shaft and slide it off?

Could you get a puller on it?

On a mini split you are probably going to have to replace the motor and wheel. I clean them in place to avoid that hassle.

closer look: it might be not Aluminum but Zamak3.... when steel and Z3 come together they will chemically bond, harder than a weld. Oil won't help!

Who is inventing such sh*t ?!

Another product that is amazing for rust busting is sea foam deep creep.
I usually use aerokroil because of the good smell but when I need something a bit stronger I use deep creep.

I make my own solution, I mix 50% acetone with 50% transmission fluid, let it soak on the part for a few minutes, it’s never failed me, “yet”.

finally got this mess off.... removed the unit, disassembled the coil, so I could remove the motor together with the blower wheel, then hold the shaft with pliers while prying with big ass screw driver, then it came off.... all this mess because there is just no access to pry it off when the coil is in, and because the end of the wheel is rubber soft... Annoying. Wasn't even sitting that hard, however no way with this soft end when the wheel is in.
