yes, if you are not a city worker for more than 2 years you will have to live in the city when you start the job except cuny and also some dcas jobs let you live outside. It depends location to location. i know it sounds funny but its true

Very true. The one case they don't require it is for engineers. Too tough for them to get enough people with HP license.

Well I guess it mite not be meant to be for me then. I had to get out of Bronx. I guess that moves someone up on list.
Don't give up on it. Read the rules, ask questions. Like Teddy said there are exceptions. The commissioner of Any agency can grant exceptions. Also, if you have military service, especially after 9/11, there are other perks. You can get additional pension credit possibly a lower tier and maybe a residency waiver. Don't refuse interviews cause your not a resident.

Ive been with the city for 6 years and I do not pay city taxes nor do I pay close to nyc tax rate

Old but pretty sure nothing's changed...

I found this out when I did my first taxes after getting city job had to pay back a year worth of taxes plus other income from non city sources. I know of at least one or two city engineers who have there entire holdings reimbursed by paying 'city' tax all year then showing non city address however they should be paying the same amount under section1127. Have they gotten away with it for a handful of years maybe, yes, would I wanna be the one getting a letter or withholding for tens of thousands of back due taxes in five or ten years when they catch up back tracking or something hell no. Roll the dice as you may, sucks but I will trust my CPA, and pay my 3.65% out of each paycheck rather then worry about down the road getting blindsided with a huge tax bill.....

Cool thank you it's a Pain to find n figure out I am aware of paying for up to three years of accredited time towards retirement but to set you back a tier of possible would be too good to be true I am gonna find a number to call and ask someone at NYC benefits n retirement offices
