My supplier delivered me a bunch of parts in a Hoshizaki ice maker box. I was surprised to read the machine was made in China. No more Peach Tree GA. I guess, and I will not recommend them any more either. I remember when they were introduced back in the day that the rep said they were made in the USA. Now I read stories of the evap plates failing from a freeze up. To think of all the multiple freeze ups I have seen in my day. They used to be the best machine, now they are only as good or worse then the rest.

This from http://www.icemakers.com.au

Today, Hoshizaki Electric Company operates 6 plants in Japan, 2 in the United States, 1 in the United Kingdom and 1 in China. The total Hoshizaki group comprises 46 affiliated companies around the world with 10.000 employees with sales of over 1 million icemakers in more than 60 countries worldwide.

They have recently opened a new plant in Griffin GA to build their non-icemachine equipment line.

I think you are jumping the gun just a little bit.

I hope this is the case, I don't work on them as much as I used to, but they made the best machine out there...

Why am I jumping the gun?
Because you are predicting the closing of the GA facilities with no facts. As I remember, when Hoshi started building in the USA, pumps and boards were imported from the home company until they could find a US company that could meet their specs. Now they are all US sourced.

Maybe some of the smaller units are shipped from Japan- but so does Manitowoc. The manufacturing industry has become more and more an international blend.

Look at the auto industry. Perhaps the vehicle might be assembled in the US, but a serious portion of the parts come from overseas. Check out this link, http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2012/03/what-percentage-of-your-truck-is-made-in-america.html. The amazing point is Toyota and Honda use more US parts than Chevy and GM.

I'm pretty sure all KM series Hoshi evaps are made in Peachtree City. That means for the small KM's assembled in China, the evaps are built and shipped from here for assembly. As far as evaps crapping out from freeze up's.... I haven't seen any unusual number of these cases around here in the 20 years that I have been a Hoshi distributer. I have seen many showing signs of damage from freeze up's but very few so bad they couldn't be put back in operation.

Americans want $15-20 an hour, Chinese are happy with a buck or 2.
Somewhere there's an article about GE moving their appliance manufacturing back to the US. One if the first lines they move was their heat pump water heaters. They were able to cut the manufacturing labor time from 8 hours to 2 hours and chop something like $400 off the price and at the same time increase quality.

A significant portion of my customers are first generation Chinese immigrants. More than a few times I've had them comment about a box from something that says made in china and ask if I can get one made somewhere else.

I have worked on many different types of icemachines and hoshizaki is still top of the list for me. How ever you want to look at it improper intallation and lack of maintains will not benefit the machines life span.

Maybe some of the evaps that are crapping out from a freeze up are made in China and installed in Peach Tree?
Eugene are you serious ? I am a HCSR for Hoshizaki I have been to the plant many times (theyre about 15 minutes from my office)
100% of evaps are made within Griffin Ga. Or Peachtree City Ga. It is a very automated engineered factory Hoshizaki is the number one cubed ice company in America, there is a reason for that they make a really good product..

Reminds me of one of my very few Good Chinese restaurant accounts, the family was there so long, that the were still advertising the place as being fully air conditioned in the 2000s.

Any ways, I remember him saying, "Bob, it is no good, made in China." Forgot what he was talking about?

Okay, so you know a thing or 2, so are you trying to say it was my imagination that the box said made in China?

Do you know all of the models that are made in China to save me the trouble of asking?

so being so close to the factory I'm guessing you never had to explain to a customer there water was too cold causing their freeze up or you haven't noticed they are quietly putting in smaller water inlet valves which has been agervating harvest issues as well

Mani gets boxes from WI, Mexico, China and Italy lol

IOM probably has the most built here of the popular brands

Most likely one of the first of the big ones left to go out of business.
