You know some of the Goodman products are worth taking a look at......

I know there's a lot of bashing of Goodman on HVACTALK. I agree they really should think twice about selling their stuff to the general public. There are many Goodman products I won't touch with a few notable exceptions:
.
Their 80% furnaces have all the right parts inside, but oh man are they loud. These furnaces are designed so that the fresh air openings on the front cover are right in front of the burners. Consequently Goodman 80% furnaces are a lot louder that most other furnaces.

Their AC units and heat pumps all use a copeland compressor, but that's really the only nice thing about them. The rest of the unit is built VERY cheap..... thin metal enclosure, with cheap paint job. In fact they're so flimsy that you can hear the coils flexing a lot as you transport the unit with you hand truck.

An exception that I wanted everyone to know is their 96% furnaces. They're very stout and feel solid. They're very quiet and have a nice setup inside. My local supplier just reduced pricing on Goodman so I agreed to sell their stuff. My favorite is the GMEC96 series which uses an x-drive ecm blower and a 2 stage burner. The board is easy to set up airflow and the GV is set up to to easily adjust GP. All of their 96% furnaces are insulated so when you close the covers up the unit is very quiet. My most recent installs had the furnace really close to the return air grill in the house. I was still able substantially reduce the noise level in the house with the new Goodman furnace.

As I said before I know Goodman doesn't do some things well. But I just thought I'd be fair and point out that I think some of their stuff is worth looking at. Especially since the pricing is very reasonable.

In comparison to some other brands the replacement parts are less expensive also. One problem I see with the product line in general, is the consumers perception and name recognition to other brands. Around here the dealer base is consisted of some of the let's say "Lowballers". This doesn't help if the buyer got another bid on like equipment. Still the name of the game is how it's put in an how good the local distributor is.I also have a real issue with their desire to push for online sales and hook people up with someone who will put it in cheap.

I like their pricing and the over all quality isn't too bad. The reliability, when installed properly, is good also.
Since they started offering a 10 yr warranty, other brands have stepped up and lowered their prices and raised their warranty's also.
I don't like that their product shows up on the internet, but they do sell more than other brands and that says something.

I won a bid to replace 43 gas furnaces, to submit a flexible bid I bid Rheem, and Goodman because of the price difference. I got the bid with Goodman GMSS96 furnaces.
I have been installing them over the last 65 days so many of them got a good workout with our cold winter. They have all done fine, no problems. The tenants have been very happy, and seen big drops in their gas bills. When I looked them over before installing, everything look good and solid. Only installed a few Goodmans before this, so did not have any real previous experience. So I would have to agree the new Goodmans look good.

I did my share of goodman install over the years and the quality of product have dropped with the years and the price keep going higher than a real brand today, a carrier cost me less than a goodman.... In their heat pump line up the SSZ series were way better in my taste(sound blanket, life time compressor waranty...) than their new GSZ series they dont have the a middle range anymore. But the major problem with selling that brand is the name. But the product is ok when properly installed.

They do sell a "sound kit" for the 80%'s,helps some. Its just an insulated door. You want quiet and easy set up,look at the GMVM,modulating.I have to look in the little window to see if the burners are on!

Their dehumidifiers are solid and made in the USA. Mid-range in efficiency.
In green grass climates, dehumidifiers are a must if you want a dry home during low sensible cooling loads, high outdoor dew points, and moisture from occupants. Mold and dust mites are probable during damp cool weather.

Goodman has a lifetime equipment replacement warranty on their premium equipment if the heat exchanger or compressor fail to the original owner.

Time will tell if the warranty falls flat like Lennox did back in the 90's with their "lifetime" warranty but it's enticing. Goodman's parent company Diaken is 12 year parts and labor and hard to compete against when offering 10 year parts 1 year labor

I guess you could live on what they allow for the labor? Especially 11 & 1/2 years from now. You really should be tellin the client it's a labor "allowance". I have found on these types of labor credits leaves you with a giant hole of suck on your bottom line.
