Went to turn on AC since finally getting above 90 in Atlanta. Anyways the furnace blower turns on but not the compressor outdoors. Trying the typical do-it yourself things, still no luck. Finally removed access panel to see if any fried wiring etc. Lo and behold the capacitor had ruptured, pretty simple and inexpensive fix.
However while I was looking at that, I noticed a big yellow dripping down on the outside of the compressor coils like yellow candle wax had dripped down from the top of the coil down. Am I screwed? what's the solution? New system? New air conditioner?
The equipment is Trane, approx 11-12 years old, XV90 furnace & XL14i air conditioner.
