Don't waste your time. Those like to break down at the drop of a hat and get real touchy with the rs-485 to rs-232 converter. Get this instead, S Squared S2USB485 Then you will have to make the wire from the S2 to your JCI device but that is easy.
This document will give you the info you need for making your cables. CVTPRO Manual

ncboston,
you've got mail.

If all you need is N2 bus connectivity we use the B & B Electronics 485SD9TB. They are port powered from the 9 pin serial connection and will work with up to about 30 devices. There is a USB/Serial converter from Digi Intl. (Digi Edgeport/1) that works great if you don't have a serial plug. both are available for about 200 bucks total.

However, if you want "Zone Bus" capability the CVTPRO is just about your only available solution.

to quote s2sam "Not "just about", but JCI's CVT "is" the only (Currently available) device with Zonebus capability." That is almost totally correct.

That is unless you have access to an old CBLPRO-2 which can "Only" do Zone bus. They have not been available for several years....

but I know people that have them. I saw one on Theif-Bay a while back and the seller wanted over 400 bucks for it !

I am surprised no one has duplicated them, probably too much "legality" involved.

Good day Cagey57,

My apologies I read your earlier post as being a non-JCI product having Zonebus capability. Indeed earlier JCI cablepros can do zonebus, but I would not think anyone would consider it considering the device's (cablePro) age.

As for replicating a Zonebus (ZB) interface... We considered it, but there "may" be some legal issues with JCI, as this is their proprietary interface. Secondly, since ZB is quite old and none of the new controllers support ZB it made little sense for us to expend any efforts creating a ZB interface.

Cheers,

Sam

Nice purchase.

One caution, you MUST have an MS-DOS based FAT32 PC to download that ZTU ! Win2K,XP-Pro, Win7 will NOT work. The application will run but ZT-Pro does a BIOS call for the COM1/2 port and that only works in DOS (all according to really smart people that know such things).

I have only been able to make it work on my old Win98SE that was upgraded from Win3.1/DOS6.22.

Good Luck !
