Can someone clarify why a heat pump condenser has a W terminal? Is it to tell the furnace when to turn on auxiliary heat? I thought that was the thermostat's job. Or is it to know when the thermostat turned on auxiliary heat? If so, then why would it need to know that?
Basically looking for the logic that happens when a thermostat, furnace, and heat pump condenser are all connected with a wire between all of their W terminals.
In case it matters, I'm particularly interested in this in regards to Bosch heat pumps.
