What does the Honeywell bog file do?

I've got a job where there are some Spyders that will be changed out. I see there is some /VirtualL10/xxxxxxxxxx.bog files. Can these be deleted or are they actually in use? I will not need them to download or anything.

They are the actual programs that should be present in the controllers. If you delete them and open a controller in engineering mode you will see a blank page. When placed in engineering mode you are not viewing the controller, you are viewing what is assumed to be in the controller according to the database record.

Might it be possible for one to upload these put of a controller? If, as an example, a JACE dies and the database must be rebuilt without a backup...

Yes and no. You can learn a program from an existing control but it will loose the structure of how it was laid out. It will stack the blocks on top of one another and if they were named I believe they are lost as well. So imagine trying to sort through hundreds of blocks all stacked. The program will work though if downloaded to a new control.

Just like Alerton. Thanks! That is what I was looking for. I have an XL50 I pulled off the wall at a retrofit. I will be wanting to find out what he thinks of himself at some point. I knew my Honeywell workbench was a large part of it, just looking for first hand details on what to expect.

If it was an XL50 with a Lon module then the points in the controller were just exposed as Lon SNVT's and brought in as a dynamic device. It probably didn't have that many points exposed because there was a limitation because of the address tables or something like that, been about 17 years since I have messed with one. But as far as configuring the controller, programming etc, as stated previously you would need CARE and the original .PJT file. If it was an XL15C then that is a different story.

XL50 is a different animal. Even though in Niagara the folder is named XL10 they have nothing in common. I may be wrong with this statement, Xl50 requires Care and you must have the original Care files. Xl10 used Lon Station, Lon Spec and Rapid Zone depending on the controller and application. Spyders and Strykers were the replacement of the XL10.
