It really should be turned. Im sure if you check with the manufacture, they would say the same. The problem I see is, it looks like there is pre-fabbed roof trusses there. More than likely on 24" oc, so not sure if the furnace is going to be able to be turned. Thats probably why the furnace is sitting the way it is.

Is that metal tape on the b-vent?
