Velocity in Water lines

Please let me know the correct or economical water velocity in cooling water line and chilled water line.Please let me know the velocity (economical) in headers and Branches of Cooling water line.

For 0.001 FPS fouling what is the additional cooling water required.I believe the water flow rate required will be more as the fouling increases.

Anything between 1.5 to 2m/s is good as far as pump power is concerned. You should always have a break even with pipe cost and pumping cost. For all practical reasons, restrict your pipe line velocities to 3m/s.

you are using pvc pipe! so, fouling should be minimum.

pipe cost is trivial to problem --

do you have open cooling towers? if so, get a trash filter! & not just hardware cloth --

Water velocity

We are using steel pipes not PVC and the cooling tower is open. The circuit is open circuit.

I always worried about having enuf pressure & gpm = pump hp -- but, at ICP, we were always changing out equip -- so load was variable -- old steel mains & main branches & 0.75" drops to small equip = single head spot welders -- that loop was probably 1000ft long --
