I wrote an answer for you:

Dear X:
Heat transfer is very sensitive to the condition of surfaces. Whereas removing hair with a brush (assuming that this didn't bend the fins) will remove coarse debris, our standard of cleanliness is higher. Higher equipment efficiency and lower operating costs result from a proper cleaning. Also, equipment that is not fully cleaned can't be "tuned" (adjusted) precisely for optimal operation. So, you may have saved money in the short term, but operating costs will likely eat those savings in the future.

Professionalism dictates that we suggest the best solutions for our clients. Our technician has been educated to produce professional results, and was correct in his/her assessment. Moreover, your equipment would have a longer life, wouldn't require cleaning as frequently and so would operate at a higher efficiency for longer periods of time if appropriate air filtration was added. You can make do the way you have, but we can't professionally suggest that people do this, as it would be to our clients' disadvantage in the long run.

Regards,
