I`ll start off first with what I have,it is a split freezer plate in a box with a txv, then has a small plate box that you sit ice trays in which is in a upper box it has its own txv.The condensing unit is in the bilge.By the way this freezer setup is in a 45 ft sport fishing boat.Any way The original condensing unit was eaten up from corrosion, the service valves were leaking and had several other leaks. So I replaced the 1/4hp condensing unit with similar unit.I charged with nitrogen checked for leaks ,let it out pulled a 15 min vac, broke vac with nitrogen then pulled a 45 min vac below 500microns.I`m using hotshot to charge this,as I `m charging the pressures looked okay, low side around 0 high was nearing 100psi,then the low side started in a vac and high started climbing, first thought was restriction at txv.Sure enough,no flow out of txvs.I blew through it and it was stuck, tapped it a couple of times and it opened.I replaced both txv`s.Did the same procedures as above, then went to charge, the same thing happened. It seems that the liquid is causing the txv`s to stick. You have to charge hotshot in a liquid state.I also used a liquid charge adapter on my cylinder.I`m not sure what is causing this.Moisture?Anybody else have seen this?

Thanks for the reply,Yes I installed a small drier catch all on the liquid line at the condensing unit.I haven`t had time to go back to the job yet,to see the sight glass. But I talked to another tech and he mentioned that the 30lb hotshot could be fragmented. It is a year old,had it in storage.I just don`t use it that much.I mainly work on and sell cruisair and marine air a/c units.I`ve no problems with the split units, they also use cap tubes. Is this possible that the blend refrigerent could fragment?
