I purchased a t49f true commercial freezer used. After plugging it and leaving to run at my restaurant I noticed that once it gets down to temp the exterior thermometer starts to climb up in temp. After 5 or 6 minutes it shows the temp about 5 degrees above zero and starts the compressor. The inside temp is actually -5 when the compressor starts but the outside shows over zero. It keeps cycling like that, 5 minutes off and 10 to 15 minutes on.

I change the temp control and gaskets but it's still the same. I had 2 separate techs comes out and they couldn't figure it.

If anyone has any ideas why this is I would greatly appreciate their advice.

Thanks

What do you mean by outside temp?
These boxes need product inside. They need a load to work smoothly. Otherwise it’s a big open box that’ll short cycle all day long.

Glass-door reach-ins have a lot higher heat loss than solid door machines, expect to see long run times followed by short off-cycles when working properly.

The outside thermometer can be adjusted to read the correct temp.
Short cycle could be the wrong stat installed improperly.

The fact that this thing is even satisfying and cycling on the thermostat shows that not only is it working, but it's working well. Make sure your not checking temps while the box is empty like the above poster said. You need to have some sort of product/load in there or you will notice that the temp will rise very rapidly during compressor off cycles.

Sorry, I was not getting notifications. The thermometer on the freezer outside shows a temp slightly less than the inside. I placed a couple of thermometers inside to make sure the inside is different than the outside. The inside is about 5 degrees less. Is that supposed to be normal?

Its analog. How can I adjust it?
Its very easy..

So if you take a small flathead screwdriver, there is a notch somewhere around the plastic cover on that thermometer.
That black ring and plastic cover will pop off exposing the needle on the thermometer.

There is an adjusting screw in the middle and it holds the needle.
With one hand hold the needle and the other hand take ur screwdriver and very slightly adjust the screw...clockwise to read colder and counterclockwise to read warmer

When it reads the same temp you like place cover back on and you're done

First step is to get a accurate thermometer and figure out which thermometer is not reading right. Could be both.

I would not make any adjustments.

In my experience this unit is working normally. Don't overthink what the temperature reading is on any device.

Usually compressor will cycle based on temp probe which senses air temp behind evaporator coil or return air temperature in front of the evaporator fan, which in your unit might be doing. So the outside display will show what probe is sensing. The inside thermometer might be reading the cabinet temperature (check if it is closer to discharge air) which will be less than the return air temperature.
