HI All,

Live in Southwest Fl and have a 25 year old Trane system, deciding to upgrade b/c of tax credits and was given the following options (2 ton)

Maytag (2 stage) PSA4BF24 with B4VM air handler, SEER 16

Trane XR-15 with 4TEE3C01 air handler; SEER 16

Trane xl16i SEER 17.5

Cost for all these systems is within about $100..

Also was quoted a Rheem for about $500 less.

We have a small house (1,000 sq ft) and lean towards Trane just because this one lasted so long (and our electric bills now are low.) However the Maytag is a 2-stage and I can't tell if there is a real, substantial benefit to the 2 stage system or more to fix down the road.?

Any input greatly appreciated

Thanks for the replies so far - So I guess I should ask what type of thermostat they are providing in the quote? One says "new" and the other says "electronic" :)
Sounds like 2 stage systems require different thermostats (aka control systems)?
