Hello,
I am planning on doing a new install with two exterior XV19 heat pumps and two interior TAM9 air handlers. The air handlers will be in a mechanical room on the 2nd floor (conditioned space) but will be adjacent to a bedroom. Can anyone tell me how loud TAM9 units are? Will I be able to hear it through the walls? Should I do any sort of sound proofing to the mechanical room?
I can find decibel ranges for the exterior heat pumps but neither Trane nor local contractors can tell me the decibel range for a TAM9. In the reviews I see people saying they are quiet as well as loud (so i think it depends on the install as well as what you consider "quiet" to be
). If anyone could take a decibel reading with their TAM9 unit at low level and full blast I would be most grateful.
In addition, should I be worrying about vibrations or duct noise transfer? What should I be asking about to ensure my install is optimally quiet? Would I be better off relocating them or are they quiet enough to be next to a bedroom?
Note: I was able to measure an S9X1 furnace at an open house that was in a garage (I think this is single stage?) and got a value around 63-65dB, would TAM9 be similar to this? It was pretty loud in the house in my opinion, maybe due to the vibration. It seems kind of sad the interior unit is louder than the exterior unit (XV19 is up to 57dB according to Trane).
Thank you for your help.
