An HVAC contractor recommended that we get a Trane CleanEffects air filter with our (proposed) high eff. furnace, but didn't want to replace the 53-year-old ducts, which are in a crawl space. He said that there wasn't enough room in our crawl space to work under the ducts, and that they were (barely) adequate. Will we get clean air if our ducts are old and leaky? I was a little taken aback that they wouldn't want to work in our crawl space - it's not that bad (I put down a vapor barrier myself there, so spent quite a bit of time there in my youth.) Any thoughts on this? Thanks. This is a great website!
