installed 13seer pac (ycx) two weeks ago. call comes,no heat . foundwires to gas valve melted together with one melted from clip to about 3 inches downstream from valve where it had melted insulation until it took out the fuse. replaced fuse, checked for shorted windings, cut wires back and replaced clips.works fine with no appreciable voltg. drop. i'm assumming (very dangerous) poor wire -to -clip factory connection .anybody seen this? note: those were only wires affected- not rollout related.

found it!

call for -no heat-again. found same wires burnt. this time, 6-7", plus the plastic cover around the windings half melted away. replaced the valve and wires and started over, from scratch. checked every wire in the box, grounds all the way to the panel, correct conversion, burner alignment and then gas pressure. found 22" at the secondary.readjusted and watched the gauge. after about 30-45 seconds the regulator would increase the pressure. tried several times to readjust, but each time it would range from 21-25" before stopping. replaced reg. and all is well. we're usually in the habbit of double checking everything, but i guess not. this is a perfect example of what happens when you don't. yes, it did finally blow the fuse. my question is, does the fuse size need to be 3 amp instead of 5? seems like a lot of damage occurred before it blew.

22" on the gas valve. probably should have checked the draw on the valve the last time, but this problem has never occurred before, so i have never had to. even if i had, without double checking pressure, i would have "assumed" faulty valve.
