I have recently purchased a 3 Floor (Plus Finished Basement). The Kitchen is an add on. Currently the entire house is one zone, with the xeception of the Kitchen.
My contractor has investigated breaking the house into zones (Basement, 1F, 2F, 3F, Kitchen). Its relatively destructive work but not as bad as I might have thought.
He has offered me the option of Thermostatic Radiator Valves. (Note: These are very old Radiators) as either an option to reduce the needed number of zones. This would be a cheaper option.
Are there options with these valves to effectively turn off some radiators? (Currently the thrid floor quickly becomes sweltering, while the Living room is comfortable)
My Options as I see it:
A: 1 big zone
B: Zone per Floor
C: Combo. Make Basement/1F a zone and 2F/3F another zone and put thermostatic valves on the radiators on the floor without a thermostat.
Does anyone have experience with these? Do they work? Do I need to provide any more info?
Thanks.
