Ok.....
This wan't a question but it definately fall into this sub-category...
I have a customer. He is a manager at a local restaraunt. EVERYTIME something is not working, he swears he smells "freon".
2 weeks ago....Kitchen AC down. Call him up. "Out kitchen is hot. I can smell the freon leaking. You need to come charge it up." Upon arrival..."Its on the roof, it just needs a recharge and we'll be set"
So I go up on the roof....system is running. Refrigerant levels are spot on after I remove his dirty filters. So I wait about 10 minutes and go back down. Walk inside and he looks at me and says "man it feels great in here now, how much freon did it need?" My response was.....NONE. I removed and replaced your dirty filters. Have a nice day.
This past Sunday. 5AM. Phone rings. "Our walk-in freezer is at 70*. I can smell the freon in the box. All our product is ruined and the delivery truck is on the way. We need the box recharged before they get here."
So I get up, get dressed, travel 2 hours to the job. He smelled the defrost heaters. The contactor was bad which is why the box was so hot. Replace contactor, allow temp to come down and tell him several times he didn't need any refrigerant.
And to top it all off.....He calls me AGAIN today. "Our oven is down, the freon is all out. Need you to come fill it back up"

I just started laughing. I couldn't help it. After a few minutes and real good laugh...I explain to him that ovens done have freon. And if he got freon in his oven.....he had a lot more issues than a busted oven. Tell him to walk over to the oven and look at the control panel. He tells me the lights are all off. I ask him if its plugged in....."no we unplugged it when we smelled the freon. Didn't want to loose any more. That stuff is expensive, ya know." After he plugged it back in, it fired right up. haven't heard from him yet so I guess all is well.
Oh and no, he didn't smell gas. This particular oven is a very small electric oven, not gas like most.
Thought I would share for all to enjoy.
