SUCTION DISCHARGE PRESSURES QUESTION

R22 is Azeotropic so you won't have any glide there or fractionation that could cause that odd suction pressure.

Has the system been worked on recently?

Sounds like your TXV is feeding more and then less very rapidly (hunting), could be a loose bulb or an uninsulated bulb or a failing powerhead.

Suction pressure/superheat is controlled by the txv to a certain degree, I would look at the TXV as my main suspect for the suction pressure issue.
