I moved into my house 1 year ago. The home had a remodel in 2005, including Amana furnace #ams90453bxa
Manual.

This summer I had an A/C installed (this was not a replacement but a new unit). The heater worked last year, though we didn't use it much. We used it once this summer around 2-3 weeks ago for a few minute to warm up the home. I tried to use the furnace a few nights ago, and it sounded like the furnace was trying to turn on but not heat would come out. I could manually start the fan, so I knew that was working. I checked the breaker and everything looked OK. Yesterday, I finally made it up to the attic. I could see 3 flashing red lights by the circuit board.

A Google search led me a DIY site which indicates that 3 flashing red lights means "pressure switch stuck open". Research indicates that Goodman makes the Amana furnaces. I found this Goodman manual (see page 29) which also indicates the 3 flashing lights are due to the pressure switch. I found during my Google search that sometimes the pressure switch will correct itself if power is cut off from the furnace.

So I flipped all the breakers for a few minutes, turned everything back on, and then the heater was working again. I could see the big flame inside the furnace. I let it run for around 30 minutes and used the heater again last night for another 30 minutes. I thought everything was golden. Then this morning, when I tried to turn the furnace on, I was back to square one: no heat but noise from the unit.

I went up to the attic and unplugged the unit from the wall for a few minutes to see if that would reset it again. It did not. I tried disconnecting the hoses from the pressure switch to the motor, blowing them to clean them out, and cleaning the inlets with a paper clip. Everything seemed immaculate to me. I tried firing up the furnace again, no go. I then unplugged it from the wall for around 30 minutes, plugged it back in, and it worked fine again.

I am just wondering what other troubleshooting I should try before calling out an expert. Is this possibly related to the A/C install from a few months ago? I do have a home warranty for my home that I could utilize if needed. I just wanted to seek some advice from you experts on what I should do next. Thanks for any help!

You've done all you can do. Draft pressure needs to be measured to ensure the inducer motor is operating normally before anything else. Call a professional to inspect the furnace and give you a diagnosis. It should be a straightforward problem to identify.

What ever you do, DO NOT bypass any safeties or 'trick' the furnace into running. Reset power if you must, but don't do anything else until you've had a professional look at it.
