Just installed my first Ruud system with an Econet touchscreen stat. Fired up the system and thermostat lit right up. The touchscreen didn't work though. I couldn't access any settings or even change the set point.

Just for kicks, I took the black "beauty ring" off of the stat. (It comes with three different colors so the customer can change the appearance). With the beauty ring off, it works great. When I put one back on, the screen is disabled.

Anyone run into this? Is there a fix, or do I have a bad stat?

Have not run into that. Only complaint about them was in the early days of the WiFi module, the host was down a lot. Seems to be fixed. Sounds like you have a bad control.

I think it's more likely a bad control than a software issue because it works great without the plastic trim ring. As soon as the trim ring is installed, the touch screen stops responding. I'll check with tech support tomorrow and report back.

They had manufacturing issues with the molding of the faceplate. Faceplate is touching the screen giving a false "touch feeling" will need to get a new stat. We just had training on the new rp20 and ra20 this issues was talked about.

Exactly what they said. New stat is coming.

That's what I kinda figured it was. I know with our touchscreens they had a similar issue & revised the software to "disable" the outer edge of the touch screen.

That's cool. I never thought of that. Reprogramming would be better than replacing (money wise).

Yeah. Take the colored trim ring off of the front and see if it works. If so, have the stat replaced.

Your solution worked for me. I forgot to mention that "works when it wants to" had a dual meaning in my case. Sometimes it would not accept input, but other times it would actually push its own buttons. That's a problem in a master bedroom at night because the panel lights up when a button is pushed. I went to bed one night with the unit set to heat at 62 degrees and got up the next morning to find it in cooling mode at 91 degrees. BTW - I don't mean auto mode, it switched modes from heating to cooling on it's own.
