Hello,
I have a 2.5 ton Heil ac/furnace unit combo that was installed in 2003. The coil inside the furnace has a leak in it that is not fixable. It's loosing about 2lbs of R-22 every 2 months.
On the first visit, I asked the contractor to do a leak check. He said it wasn't necessary and that 2 pounds over 10 years is normal. I told him I would rather have him do the test for leaks since he was charging me for an hour labor anyway and he refused because it was "the weekend". He said he only does leak tests during the week. So I paid $ (plus tip) to have 2 lbs of R-22 installed.
Two months to the day later, my unit froze up again because it was 2 pounds low again. This time, same company (but different tech) came out. They agreed there must be a leak somewhere but said that leaks can be tricky to find and can take a long time. I asked him if they could just put dye into my system and come back in 2 days. He said "we don't use dye, it's bad for your system". So I left him look around with his sonar type unit. After about 2 hours, he found the leak inside they house unit, just above the furnace, in the evaporator coil. He said that it wasn't repairable and it's probably $ for the coil and 4 or 5 hours labor to change it out.
I checked online to find the coil myself and found it for $ to $ based on where you buy it from but everyone I call says that it's discontinued and you cant get them anymore. Also, no one will sell me one directly since I'm not a "contractor". What I wanted to do was buy one myself and pay to have someone install it. I'm not paying someone $ for a $ part, that's ridiculous.
So to get to the point of why I'm posting all of this, I was wondering if anyone can help me locate the part OR find an equivalent part that I can pay someone to install.
They model of the part I have that I need replaced is:
HEIL
EPD30B15C2 (cased)
EPA30B15A (uncased)
What's in the unit now is "cased" but couldn't I also buy the "uncased" one and just have a contractor put it in the existing case that I have in the system already?
If I could get an equivalent, since they don't make the part any more, that would be fine too.
Here is a link to the spec sheet with all of the measurements for it (EPD30B15C2):

Maybe someone can tell me what current production coil I could get as a replacement that has that 065 aperture size and can be used with R-22. I found a Goodman coil that's all aluminum that I'd like to use but I think it's too large to fit inside the furnace I have.
Or perhaps someone could tell me what other options might be?
Thanks!
