I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with return registers for log cabin homes. I am GEN.Con. in the Sierra mountains doing corrections on my plans. I have a home that is 1955 sq ft. There is a Great room with a vaulted ceiling, down stairs master bdrm, a loft and 2 upstair rooms. I have logs up to 8.5' which then will turn into 2x6 stud walls for the 2nd floor. I dont have to many options that I can see about placement for my return. I want to keep it away from the supply registers, but the heater will be in the garage and the furthest area is the master bedroom. I have one place that I can come up from underneath the main floor,(which is a Crawlspace) it would be where the stairs will be up to the 2nd floor. I would like to have a return upstairs, but can't figure out how to get it there and if I do put it downstairs I think I have to put it where the stairs will be since they will be enclosed. Any suggestions, I am also having to follow Title 24 for all of this. Thanks for any replys.:rolleyes:

I am not sure what your implying by what your return post said. Too bad we live so far away from each other. It would be fun to meet and have you say that to me in person, you can stick those two manuals where the sun dont shine whimpy:D

Easy for you to say since your hiding behind your computer screen, if all else fails though resort to 3rd grade name calling.
Speaking of 3rd grade hows your creativity with the ductwork coming?:p

two stories equal two systems. unless you violate the laws of physics and make hot air fall and cold air rise your performance will never be what you planned . best you can hope for now is a common closet etc that you can run a return pipe up through to upper floor. Dont they require a dedicated return in every room there? Why NOT? how did this get by the plans examiner if they do? Not trying to be a butt , but a return in every room is the pro way to go. the architect that designed the log cabin should hav e designed that in his drawing.for this reason the logs dont favor well here in fla. we do quite a few but the cost is ungodly. also mildew on upper floor breams is a problem if any cool air supply blowws directly on a log. angle them down and off ceiling beams. if mildew occurs use a strong solution of commercial ice machine sanitizer and water and rags to clean and treat beams.
