What are 30 lbs cylinders of r-12 worth 9/2022? I think I still have 5-6 cylinder left from a large purchase back in the late 1980s. $20/cylinders at the time. 10 pallets of r12! Quite a expensive investment at the time but it paid off in the long run 100x fold!

I did the same think with r22 in 1998. (6) pallets of r22 for $30 a cylinder, and I still have 2 pallets left as of 9/2022. Probably the 2nd best investments I’ve ever made! I cover the cost for a cylinder of 22 this year by just selling 4oz of r22.

I got a quote of a company who buys refrigerant for cash and they are offering $18/lbs for r12… I don’t know if it worth selling the rest of my r12 to them or not. I am keeping at least 1 cylinder for my subzero fridge.

I sold 25 30lbs cylinder of r12 to NAPA 5 years ago for $580 per 30lbs cylinder. NAPA repacked them into 1 lbs cans. I can just imagine what they were making of the r12!

If anyone is interested in buying r12 in NJ please send me a message. I Rather not sell it to a large company to resell for god know what. Shipping is out of the question the paper work to ship it is ridiculous. If you want it shipped add $100 handling fee on top of shipping cost…..sorry. BTW, I also have a cylinders of R500 as well.

I just sold my partial r12 to refrigerant finders.com $17 lb, but they sent me a box and prepaid Fedex ship label, hazmat paperwork.
They sounded hungry for 12, pretty sure you could negotiate$ and they would pick up large quantity. They want 500 as well.

It's getting to the point where the real old stuff is probably going to India or Africa, not much call for it here in the states.

I just want the shed cleaned out, threw out two big JB vacuum pumps from the 90's, who needs them when amazon has new for 69.99.

i contacted refrigerant finders also. They will actually pick up the refrigerant and pay you cash on the spot. $18 a lbs seems low $540 a cylinder.... I also have a can of r500 but they only want it for $13/lbs.. . ill try and see if they might pay more for the r12 but i know they need to make a profit. i dont want to be screwed selling for a low price since i really don't need to sell the r12.

Has anyone else used refrigerant finders? Were you able to get more than 18/lbs for r12 30lbs sealed cylinders?

thanks

I think the highest offer we got was around $22 lb for R22...but that was several thousand lbs.

The less volume, the less these places pay. $18 isn't terrible....plus you have to remember, there's no demand for R12 anymore. Plenty of other replacements out there.
