I noticed today on my eight-month old outside AC unit that there is oxidation (at least, I believe that's what it is) on the copper line going into the unit. See attached photo.
A coworker of mine who used to work in the HVAC industry (and he is pretty knowledgeable) told me that it's only cosmetic, and that it won't eat through or corrode the pipe. He said it might be due to the fact that the installer left some flux on the line when he was brazing it.
He did say that if I was concerned with the appearance, I could remove it with some 0000 steel wool, or even an SOS pad.
So here are my questions:
1) Does this indeed look simply like oxidation, and will it do no structural harm to the piping?
2) Is it normal? (I can't remember what my 20-year-old prior unit looked like.)
3) If I decide to remove the oxidation (somewhat doubtful, as I don't really care what it looks like, as long as it does no harm, will the 0000 steel wool or the SOS pad work?
Thanks
