Another possiblity could be that it is an older remote unit when they used to ship the same fronts for everybody. That being said, that was only from looking at the picture - if you heard a fan running, then yup you have a terminal condition guaranteed to eventually fail.
Personally I despise when the restaurants in "effort" or make their $ 2.00 burger look good; try to make their restaurant pass off as fine dining when they could have spent the little bit extra and made it a remote. (For those installing them - NO LARGE SPIRALS - cut them to the proper length. If you are a great tech you know the factory expects that to happen when installed by a professional.(No spirals that is) They still cover the warranty as long as standard install procedures are followed. The quick connects in my opinion are for the idiot general contractors who don't want to hire a licensed company to do it right the first time.......OK I'm done ranting now.
