So, anyone on the east coast being entertained by the news squeezing the upcoming snow for all its worth? Went to the store earlier and people were running around like Hurricane Hugo was bearing down here.
Apparently Obama got delayed yesterday, in the huge 1" of accumulation.

Did I mention I HATE snow?
Oh well. The snow plow is mounted, the fridge is full, the liquor cabinets stocked and the kids have plenty of movies to watch.

I'm ready. Snow blower checked, generator fueled. I'll probably spend sat making a nice roast and telling people on the phone 'Nope'.

Although if I hear one more newscaster say 'Snowmaggedeon' I'll probably throw something at the tv.

Just gassed up the blower. Tomorrow after work, I will drag it out and park it by the back door, and put it under a tarp. Then, I can run a cord out to the 120v starter and hit it with a little ether, and off I go, first thing Saturday.

I get a laugh out of the news reports when you boys get a "big" storm. We've only had one snow day from work in the last 3 decades and that was only due to DOT closing the state roads to commercial traffic.

We received 31" of snow from that storm and winds that day were in excess of 40 mph.

Everything is relative and what you are used to. The big story up here is how warm it has been and how little snow we have. For comparison, the high today was 17 deg and we only have a foot or so of snow pack.

Good luck with "Snowmaggedon". Haha.

Sitting here in the projected bulls eye mid way between DC and Annapolis just waiting. Gas on hand, beer, cigs, snowblower ready to roll. Precooked a few meals that can be warmed up on the grill. Bring it on.

Last night - Wednesday we had a clipper roll through the area. Less then an inch of powder (we normally get wet snow off the water.) Ground has been frozen for days. Snow hit the pavement and turned into instant glaze. All roads were a mess - the DC Beltway was jammed. Looked like pinball game. Cars spinning out. Local governments dropped the ball and didn't treat roads. Didn't matter how good a driver you are. Normally takes me 20 minutes to get to the Data Center - 4 hours and had to turn back. I'd rather drive in 8" of snow vs. glazed ice.

So, for those of you in the bullseye, stay safe and check on your neighbors - especially the elderly. For those of you from way up north, the stout hardy winter types that walk barefoot in the snow, uphill, both ways to work, now is your chance to laugh at us. :)

We will get it Tonight first.
Let you know 'if' we have power in the a.m.TV is already stating outages and 3-6" snow with freezing rain to begin with.Got gas for the Gen,LP for the stove, good Bourbon and wait.
See, I have a Red Tailed Hawk who when he appears around this time, has always never failed to predict freezing precip in 1 of 3 forms within a week. Not marginal but big time...
Hawk has been right the last 3 years in a row.Already got a round last week of light stuff but this could be a,
6" 'light dusting' as in the past.Which for Us,is bad especially with the freezing rain first which is the real killer..

I lived in N VA just outside DC back in the late 1980's... Remember all to well how DE and N VA fell apart when it snowed.

Down here in Atlanta... the last bad snow we got was in late January... either 2011 or 2012... do not remember which...
Anyhow... about 8-9"... shut down the town for 3-4 days.

I do not even worry about it much anymore... keep the vehicle gas tanks full... I can siphon some out for the generator... My power is pretty dependable.

I keep lots of food in the house... and enough spirits... :)

You guys take care... and as noted... check in on your neighbors... especially the elderly.

It always baffles me when a snow storm rolls in.

I had to go to the grocery store to get a couple things and the store was MOBBED. ALL the bread was gone. All I wanted was a friggin' burger tonight.

I'm sorry, but when has anyone in Richmond been so snowed in that they couldn't get out of the house and make a grocery run? I understand folks who live out in the sticks, but in the city even when we have 12 inches, the roads are clear by 12:00pm. Heck, I'll be running calls all night tomorrow in my own car if need be.

#22 ·
I'm heading over to your house now, see you in a second lol. The bad part to me is if you live outside Richmond in a rural area your pretty much guaranteed to lose power. Right now I'm in Norfolk for drill and have to drive back Sunday night to 20 minutes below Richmond city. Hopefully the snow plows get busy : )

Won't the salt ruin your lipstick? Lol. Just kidding.
I'll be thinking about some cocktails in about 24 hours, after digging out my house, then load everything up and dig out my Dad's house, the dig out my shop...THEN, go to work

Well...

Looking at the weather maps....
There is a big bulge of warm air coming up from the gulf... pretty much covers most of GA (state)... so the precipitation is rain rather than snow or ice.

So the ice and snow are gonna just miss us... and honestly I am glad.

This big city does not know how to handle ice and snow... albeit we are better set up now than a few years ago. We have enough issues with tree limbs falling and causing power outages... both from ice/snow and from thunderstorms... that is enough to deal with... do NOT need to add slick roads in an area where few folks know how to drive on slick roads.

I don't mind when they hype an actual blizzard. It's when they hype a regular snow storm that ends up dropping an inch that gets me or worse when they hype a rain shower. We had wall to wall coverage of a rain storm that dropped an inch of rain for Gods sake with just a little lightening and less than 20 mph winds.

we have ben dealing with the same news crap for over a week. last week they were predicting a storm to bring 3-6 feet over a 3 day period. everybody got prepared, the town was a wreck and shelves were low on stock. we literally got under 2". then they claimed that same storm was going to move over us and stall dumping 1-3" an hour. they predicted amounts 4"-24". really? 4"-24"? that's a pretty big window, lol. luckily everybody was still stocked up from 3 days before. places closed the night before including schools and county transportation. we shuffled work around again to avoid traveling in it. so now I have pushed off scheduled service work 5 days putting it into the next week. for 5 days I sat around staring out the window praying for the snow to come so I didn't feel bad. we got 4" total. and it happened overnight anyway. now we have to double up on service to catch up. I don't think they understand what it does when they hype up these storms like this. it disrupts many lives. but I guess if it doesn't affect you directly it doesn't matter. like cops, if they were held directly responsible we wouldn't see 1/3 of the abuse we do.

That is a very good point Snupy. We had the reverse happen over the Thanksgiving weekend. The forecast was for sunny and 40* with light and variable winds (which is down right balmy for late November). There wasn't a single mention of high winds in the forecast. So I scheduled outage work that involved 2 cranes for that weekend. What we actually got were 35+ mph sustained winds from Friday all the way through Sunday. The cranes never made the first lift. What a waste of overtime and hours upon hours of planning.

How do you miss something like that? If I was as bad at my job as most weathermen are at their's, I would have been out of business long ago.

Don't any off you forget this is all caused by the tons of r12 and r22 we all let escape into atmosphere years ago, how could we have ever done that. This is Global warming at it's worst and likely to be in another Ice Age or Desert in the next 5 years. BullS**t.

I was just having a semi load discussion with an acquaintance that really this believes that stuff heart and sole. I'm sure my comments may stir some up here. I am just amazed at what those who believe in global warming really think and most is not based on fact just emotion. Just like who will save the polar bear out swimming. They fail to realize the polar bear swims from ice mass to ice mass and will swim to catch seals for lunch

Have good storm

The first flake has fallen! Hit the drug store on the way home and two lady's were arguing over the last pack of eggs.
I don't see what all the fuss is about.
Anyway, here's the before shot-

Just came in from plowing. Snow started about 3 PM and there's about 4" out there now. Winds kicking up too.
At least I had a little fun getting some riding in.
