If you are considering a wood/oil combo unit get the one with "no grate".

You will be thankful for the wood burning savings as the models with the cleanout grates burn wood at a very fast rate.

Excellent product when installed properly, maintained and to code.

Thanks for the tips. I just realised that the wood/oil combo might not work as I am also venting an oil fired water heater (John Woods 32 gal) up the same 8"x12" flue. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks again.

As is sits now you may not vent an oil fired water heater in the same chimney as the wood/oil combo unit. CAN/CSA-B139-04 Installation code for oil burning equipment.

The wood/oil combo unit will however require a stainless steel chimey liner in order to meet code. CAN/CSA-B365-01 installation code for solid fuel burning appliances and equipment.
