We just had our aging Payne heat pump replaced with a new Trane XR14 3.0 system. We had been previously using an ecobee4 thermostat with no issues. We're having a problem with the new Trane and the contractor keeps wanting to blame the ecobee - which makes no sense to me given it has worked well for a year or two now. Here's the problem:
When we change from heat to cool (or vice versa) the outside unit will not come on and work unless we kill power to the entire system. Basically reset it. As long as it remains in the same mode it works but as soon as we switch we lose the outside unit. I'm at a total loss on this. The contractor wired up the air handler and made no changes to the thermostat wiring itself. We verified that the settings are correct so I'm wondering if in fact something in the air handler is not wired correctly or if perhaps we have a defective unit. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
