I had my new XL16i system with a tem 6 air handler put in today. I am amazed at how much quieter the xl16i is as compared to one I had installed less than two years ago. Another thing I noticed was Trane went with a non electronic txv on this unit.... I guess the electronic txv wasn't up to 400% more reliable as they thought??

No they still use the EEV it's just in their more high end air handlers.

They dropped the EEV from the GAM5 but left them in the TAM7 and TAM8. Probably $$ reason.

Does the tem6 air handler have dip switch setting for control of the blower?

I noticed when the system starts the blower will slowly ramp up but only seems to blow at about 75% and never runs up to 100% even when we were trying to cool off a 84 degree house. My older trane air handler that was similar to this one would ramp to 100%.. House took a little longer to cool off due to lower airflow.. Temp differential between from register to return air had a 22 to 23 degrees difference...

Other than that things are working great. Able to maintain temps...

The installer is sending his trane guy out next week I just want to know how to tell him what I want

If you are running 75%, they likely wired the air handler wrong and it thinks you have a 2 stage unit and are running on low, which is about 75% of full airflow.

Now the 16i is a two stage compressor. Does that make a difference?

Before the guys installed the equip it looked at the boxes and compared the model number with the Trane site to ensure im getting what i am paying for. The unit is labled as an xl16i 4 ton. I noticed right away the condensing fan and blade are a different design, no compressor sound blanket, and no electronic txv.

Far as I know, the current generation of 16i is single stage. The XR17 and XL18i are the 2 stage.

From the "service facts" sheet for the 6048H and says 1 compressor 1 stage. The G was 2 stage but when they came out with the 18i, they changed the 16 to 1 stage.

To top it off when I had my 4ton system changed i had the installer change my honeywell wifi thermostat to the model that has two cool stages three heat stages.. I guess I wasted some money..

My installer is good but he normally doesnt do trane...

The H model is when they changed to 1 stage, previous models were 2 stage. But have him check to make sure Y1 and Y2 are jumped on the air handler. If hooked only to Y1, you get low airflow.

Ok tech jumped y and y2 and airflow is at normal full speed now. Since he put in a visionpro 8320 thinking outside unit was 2 stages; I asked if he changed settings to one stage compressor on thermostat and he said settings will be fine since he jumped wire. I just hope I don't have to call him back out when it's time to turn heat on.....
