I've got a new customer that has 3 pieces of equipment, each controlled with a UNT141 controller. Is there a way to network the 3 controllers, just for viewing, setpoint changes, etc? I don't want to necessarily change the way things are controlled, just make it for easy access.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tons of way to do it. Cheap and Hokie to Expensive and first class and everything in between. How much does this guy want to invest?

How much $

Like freddy-b said "how much does this guy want to invest" ?

You can do it with a Companion LTD (yes, we still have some used ones), an N30 (some of those too !) or an FX-20. As long as you want Cheap the first 2 will do it and all you need is a PC with VT-100 emulation.

You're looking at a few hundred to a few thousand depending "How cool ya want to make it" and how much time you want to invest in learning and programming.

Keep an eye on this thread, there may even be more options that I haven't heard of before.

Good day Michael,

Depending upon your timeframe and needs, we may have a product that you might be interested in. We will soon be releasing a very sweet little wall mounted user interface terminal (TFT LCD with Touch Screen ) that will allow you to interact with the N2 (or MS/TP) bus. Depending upon how you configure the device, it can act as a Supervisory controller (what you will be needing) for a small N2 bus or as a N2 Slave device. There is a bunch of other features integrated into the product as well (ambient light level sensor, Occupancy Sensor, etc). If you are interested in more details, just give me a call (my contact info is in my profile). Pricing will be around $400. Attached is a picture of the device… please forgive the camera angle as it was chosen to minimize the reflection of the camera’s flash.

Cheers,

Sam

Good day CCI Kelly,

I am glad that you like the device. Sadly, since the product has not yet been released, I cannot e-mail you any info (we are still finalizing the firmware). You are welcome to call though.
Cheers,
Sam

I appreciate all for the quick responses. Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. I think my customer just wants a way to access the setpoints and schedules. Two of the three controllers are very difficult to access (above the ceiling in a "clean room"). Is it possible to just "daisy chain" the three controllers via the N2 bus (make sure all 3 have different addresses), so that the customer can access them with HVAC Pro, without using any additional hardware? He received HVAC Pro and MTools when he purchased the controllers.

Michael

Yes... Network the UNT's together and connect them to a CVTPRO box. You can now access all your controllers using HVAC-PRO

Checkout this link for what you will need (CVTPro):

Good day mvigil514,

You can certainly use the CVTPro as requested above, however, there are other more "cleaner" and cheaper options. You can check out our S2USB485 device or similar devices from B&B, etc. The only reason why you would select the CVTPro device over another device is if you require Zonebus support. Since you are planning on using the N2 bus for your communication, Zonebus support is somewhat moot.

Cheers,

Sam

The s2usb485 is nice. The B&B Electronics device for a 9 pin serial port is P/N 485SD9TB (about 80 bucks).... but you have to have a laptop with a Serial Port. Both work great but use the s2usb485 if you do NOT have a serial port only USB. I have both the B&B and a CVTPRO, I seldom use the CVTPRO.

Besides the N2 bus runs at 9600 the zone bus runs at 1200. I am too impatient for zone bus stuff unless it's absoultely necessary.

If you don't have it already you will need MTOOLS ver 5.4.2 and the 8.08b patch to be fully up to date.

Yes it works with HVACPro, no power supply required. It is port powered via the serial port and no it is not too good to be true.

We have been using them for a couple of years and they are very reliable and inexpensive. You are however limited to about 35-40 devices simply due the fact that they are port powered.

It would be prefect for your application if you have a serial port on the PC/Laptop you will be using.

Use caution when using "Commissioning" mode, any mistake you make is written into the ASC EEPROM if you save shange on exit.
