Hi, I live in Chicago suburbs and am in the process of upgrading my HVAC systems, I have a two story home, and the manual J report requires 2 80k btu furnaces and 2 3 ton ac, which is what I currently have so the load calc is good. After looking at several equipment brands, I have an apples to apples comparison between York and Bryant.

York: YXT A/c communicating
YPLC furnace communicating both down and upstairs. All communicating with affinity hx3 controls

Bryant: 189BNV AC (5 stage)
987m furnace downstairs, 880ta upstairs. All communicating with connex controls

Both contractors are very well reviewed, I am comfortable with both.and are both factory certified and NATE certified. I felt slightly more comfortable with Bryant, due to the thoroughness of estimate but can go either way.

The Bryant installer upgraded from the 187b to the 189 because he said the cost was nearly identical, so Bryant has a 5 stage ac while York has 2 stage. That is the only difference between the two, other than cost. The Bryant system is 20% more than the York, mainly due to the hefty rebates York is offering. Cost is not the primary concern, quality and comfort is. But with that said, I don’t want to waste money either.

Is there one system you’d recommend over the other, with all of this considered?

This forum has been invaluable in this whole process and is much appreciated.

What are the hefty rebates that Bryant is offering, I see the Federal Tax Credit and a small rebate. The York also gets the Federal Tax Credit, and probably applies for any rebates your state or local utility company may offer. Needs to be a AHRI match for rebates.

What about labor warranties, are both Contractors offering the same, or is one longer. If one is longer, is that one factor in determining a particular unit over another?

What are the SEER and EER ratings of those two models?, what are the AHRI number they gave you?

Need to register your system of choice as manufacturers warranty decreases if never registered.

The Bryant 987 looks to be a 98% efficiency and variable speed. So that should also qualify for rebates and the Tax Credits. The others look to be 80%

IMO the Bryant (Carrier) is a better call, York is kind of on the way out, where are they manufactured?? Installer also a big factor. American Weathermakers and Charmed are both good dealers here.

York made in Norman OK or Witchita KS while Carrier is moving more production to Mexico. But I agree, I think I'd trust Bryant over York.

Bryant.

I’m a York dealer and I like York in general, but their Hx thermostat is crap and I’ve seen a number of issues with the YPLC. Bryant/Carrier makes good furnaces and I like their communicating thermostats, just don’t like their support. If you were looking at something low or mid-range, I’d say York.

Just don't see many of them anymore, speculation only, was not trying to imply that York is inferior in any way. Made in America is a good sign.

Yeah, Carrier has been in Mexico for a long time. I spent time once @ UofI, they had just purchased a few 19DB I think. The Mexicans must have welded the 24" spiral suction elbow all the way around in one pass, as soon as you took the coupling apart the elbow would spring a good inch out of alignment, they all leaked like sieves. Never the less I've had good luck with their residential and commercial line. I installed mine in 1988 and it runs great, knock on wood.

I thought u might of had some inside info. We see lots of York here (York, Guardian, Luxaire, Coleman).

Evcon/Guardian, shows commercial units for Fraser-Johnson. Looks to have a residential line? Under Johnson Control as is already mentioned with York and the others.
