Newbie here, hope I'm posting correctly. Just had a new SLP98 installed. works great, what a difference from my older high efficiency furnace. I run on propane.

While the unit works great, when its in high mode, it often makes a thumping sound coming from the combustion chamber. doesnt really do it in low mode. they did change out the gas valve on installation to LP.

the installer was back and thought it was a faulty gas valve and replaced it. didnt help. i had the propane company come out to change the regulators just to be sure and he thought there was a problem with the venting where the intake goes from 2" out of the furnace to 3" and once outside back to two.

So any thoughts on this? is it the venting? did they install the wrong LP gas valve for this particular furnace? other issue?

thanks for your help.

i did already review that thread. sounded like that could be it. the concerning part is that its more than a "fluttering noise". the gas pressure fluctuates wildly when it happens.

my repair guy did say there was a gasket issue with the 110btu units, and he was looking into that for my 90. i did also talk to Lennox directly and they are supposedly contacting the installer (who is a Lennox owned shop btw) about the fix. we'll see what happens.

Im hoping its not a serious problem or a danger to the unit. or me.

thanks for the help.

Mine was doing it also.(SLP98UH070V36B) Lennnox tech guy sent my dealer a whole bag of burner box lids for different size models. The new lid has the white high temperature gasket material over entire surface. The old one just had a black foam seal around edge. Cured the problem on mine. Just a matter of swapping out lid. My dealer was happy to do it. Lennox paid him an hour and it took about 2 minutes to install.
