I'm considering several options to upgrade my existing system. My existing system is approximately 20 years old or so. My question is do I go ahead and bite the bullett and replace the entire system (i.e. condenser, coil, furnace, media filtration, etc.) or should I just replace the condenser and coil. What would be the pros and cons of each approach and if I replaced the entire system and went with a 16 SEER system would I see significant $$$ in the electric bill? Best guess is my existing system is 6 - 8 SEER. Any other help/comments would be appreciated.

20 year old unit! if you have the extra $, replace it all! it's time for the up grade!

Might want to get some bids. IIRC, the average life expectancy of newer units are ~12-14 years.
Doing one then doing the other a year or two later is likely to cost more than doing them both at once.
If your condenser/evap are 20+ years old, you'll be looking at a lot of savings on the operating costs of a new system. If the current furnace can deliver.

It is all dependent upon your financial choices.
