I feel like I'm beating myself over the head with a chair!!

We finally decided on a Bryant because Trane's coils are not in for the 5 ton unit.

Now we have to decide on the installer and I know this is the most important decision about the whole process.

Comparing the same model number units both companies are within a couple hundred of each other = happy.

Company 1-
- in business 30 years
- has good reviews on angie's list and others
- not as thorough on information as other company

Company 2-
- in business 9 years
- also good reviews on angie's list
- here's the problem: The guy that came out to give a proposal was incredible - he loves his job. He climbed up into the attic and took pictures of the air leaks, kinks in coils and everything else. He's very thorough and for that reason I would like to use him. On the other hand they haven't been around as long and therefore they don't have a "reputation" like the other company.

Any suggestions?? :beat:

If it was me, I would go with #2. I like that sort of attention to detail. Are they going to fix the leaks and kinks?

Companies that have been in business 30 don't neccessarily impress me anymore. I had one of those do sizing by square feet, and another just went out of business.

You should conduct a search of this website to see how many people have suffered under the same sort of conditions. The answers are the same.

Yes - he's going to change the leaks and kinks.

I think I'm leaning toward number 2 as well.
I would not worry as much about the years in business. In this economy no business is safe. Just make sure you buy a 10 year labor warranty with your unit so any dealer can warranty it. Good luck with your new system.

And I would make sure the 10-year labor warranty is from the manufacturer, not the dealer.

Yes, Make sure after the install you get your close out documents it will include your registration of your unit and your 10 warranty submission paper. The factory will send you the 10 year warranty in the mail directly. Make sure you keep it on file for any future issues. There is a extended warranty number on it that any dealer will honor. Don't just trust that the install company registered it get it in writing and verify the model and serial numbers.

I totally agree. Had one out, a hot-shot salesman, who when asked about a manual J replied that he couldn't do one since the ducts were already in place.

The company that has been around for 30 years. 21 years ago, people gave them a chance.

Why not give the current 9 year old company a chance. Since they seem to be interested in doing right by you. And checked out everything, before just giving you a price.

even mfg warranties are subject to bankruptcy.

Angie's list - OK.
Are you asking the right questions?
Ask these questions :
Are they going to perform a manual J?
Willt they flow nitrogen during brazing?
Will they pull a 500 micron vacume?
Skippedover has great advice (links) for choosing a contractor.
I'd check them out.

no, what i am saying is that since everybody is stressing ten year mfg warranties is not a guarantee the warranty won't go bankrupt.

i go t caught between a rock and a hard when the mfg that I sold went belly up.
Mfg did not go under, only the warranty company administrating the coverage did.

ICPs HELP extended warranty is administered by a second party that I believe went thru a rough patch a few times in the recent years.

This is why you only buy a ext. warranty where the Manufacture holds the warranty and not a third party. Most top mfg. hold there own warr. This is when research pays off.

This can be answered by your dealer or the local distibutor. If they don't know call the mfg. directly. All top mfg. have good customer support lines.
