With winter setting in - I wanted to do a furnace tune-up and the last one was done 3 years back. I do know about the AOP locator map but for my location, i.e. Central Jersey, NJ the ones I found I ain't liking at all! The one I used seemed to have gone belly-up. Any leads ; appreciated.
The reason I am not liking it is they are not giving me a straight answer! There's now this whole business about tune-up for 1 price, abnormally low and then they charge an arm and a leg for ANY adjustment! The discussion in most cases goes like this: "Please list me the list of things you check?" 50% of the answers don't have Combustion analysis at all and many more don't do the amp draw test. But my biggest complaint is - those who indeed do a reasonable set of tests which also includes static air pressure check, gas pressure checks and temp tests invariably when asked: "Well, lets just assume its clear post tests that such adjustments are required. Will you be doing it as part of the tune-up?". Invariably, the answer is "No. Any adjustments, etc.... are extra. This $XXXX is only to give you the health of the system". This was NOT the case when I did the earlier tune-ups!!
Most likely, if the manifold pressure does need adjusted, the tech will do it while he is testing it, and checking combustion efficiency.

If the static is off. Then most likely its not just an adjustment, but something mechanical or duct, or evap coil related needs attention(they didn't adjust static previously either when you had a tune up done).

All adjustments are extra, is a way to prevent someone from complaining when they get a quote for the extra work that is found to be needed, or recommended.
