I need some advice about what to do with an r-12 system I came across. My Friend has a printing press and asked me to take a look at a refrigeration unit he has which cools a solution for the press. It's an r-12 and I have no experience with this refrigerant. I found the compressor shorted to ground so I'm looking at weather I should replace the compressor with the same r-12 compressor and look for a drop in (not sure what) or should I do some sort of retro over the 134A and get a 134a compressor. Replacing the unit is not a good option because it is 30K to buy.
1. It would probably be easiest to just get the same compressor and filter drier and call it a day if someone could recommend a good drop in.
2. If I did convert it over to something else what would it be and would I have to change the txv or coils?
