Hi everyone, I am new to this site. Sorry this is so long but I want to give you the full details. I have an issue thats been going on for a little over 90 days. At the beginning of June my A/C unit stopped blowing cool its a 2.5 ton Trane that was put in new in 1999 along with the furnace. We bought this house about 7 years ago and also have a home warranty company that covers these type of issues. I immediately called the company and they sent out a licensed company from my area. The technician looked the A/C unit over and said that the compressor was bad but that the unit was over 16 years old and really needed to be replaced but their would be extra costs and he didn't want to mess with the home warranty company so he was just going to replace the compressor. I balked at it but the warranty company replaced the compressor. Since then that technician has returned 3 times due to continuing issues with the unit. The 4th time he finally said he could not get to my house for about a week and that this was costing him tons of money and he suggest i get the warranty company to send someone else out. Since it was gonna take so long to come to my house the warranty company agreed and sent another licensed HVAC company for a 2nd opinion. This gentlemen came and did a complete thorough inspection of my A/C and my furnace. He found that the A/C had 3-4 leaks by the board the bulb and several other spots he then looked at my furnace and used a piece of equipment that made crackling noises he said checked for leaks in the coil. He found several leaks in the coil one was very large. He immediately said what idiot put a new compressor in this16 year old system, and that both units needed to be replaced.

The warranty company has agreed to replace both unit, but I have a cost of $xxxx for modifications and extras that they don't cover, which is fine with me. They are putting in a new comparable in size units 2.5 ton 410A unit. Here is where the issue they want to put in all Goodman equipment and will not budge. The technician they sent out called me and said that they were giving me JUNK. They offered to buy out the problem and cut me a check but i only get a total of $xxxx. So with the $xxxx they give me and the $xxxx i was putting in I have $3145.

So, what do I do? Do I proceed with the Goodman equipment or do I take that $xxxx and add about $xxxx of my own money to put in a Bryant single stage 2.5 ton 15 sear 410A system? I am so frustrated. Please help me with your thoughts and opinions or any ideas. Thanks

I understand the replies I have gotten is about how you guys do not like the warranty companies. I get that, but thats not the question. The same technician that was sent in by the warranty company is calling me and telling me that Goodman is JUNK and wants me to take the buyout and pay HIM directly to install either a Carrier or Payne system but at a much larger fee. It would be the SAME company SAME technician thats installing it either way. My question is are Goodman A/C & Furnace units truly JUNK or is this technician just trying to make more by scaring me?
