Thanks to all the informative threads here, help from the folks at Circon, and the help of several folks from this board I have successfully installed several Circon UHC300 controls in various projects.

We are "green" mechanical contractors on Martha's Vineyard using the UHC300 to control solar staging, geothermal heat pumps, and DHW, spa, and heat and cool systems.

My question concerns internet connections for the iLon100 e3. In our office I set up two separate DSL accounts on two different phone lines, one static IP and the other dynamic.

I can get the static IP to connect nicely with the iLon 100, I can see the webpage I have created and can see it from outside (from a different internet connection).

I can not get the iLon to work with the dynamic IP out to the internet - I can see it locally but not out on the internet. We set up a www.dyndns.org account and could ping it but couldn't see it.

I am a mechanical engineer with limited time to master the internet IT side of things so I have the island's two top tech guys working on this for me...

we took an iLon to a client's location and connected it to his DSL dynamic set up and could not get it to work. As above, my IT guys set up a dyndns account and could ping it but couldn't see it.

Then they took my iLon back to their offices and successfully connected via their dynamic IP cable modem.....

They are baffled and think the next step is calling Echelon. I have pored over the documentation and see reference to a dynamic dial up connection but no reference to dynamic internet connections.

Any ideas? and any ideas on work arounds so I can get the iLon to work with a dynamic connection.

thanks

Brian Nelson

I am assuming your issue is getting in/to ilon from outside, if so:
It is most likely a router or ISP issue.
Is your site router forwarding the right ports to the ilon?
Have you tried changing the webserver port of ilon to something other than 80, as well as setting the router up to forward this new port to ilon.
Some ISPs block port 80 on residential lines.

Need more info on what you have tried so far.

Okay, I reread your post, I think I was assuming that you have a router in between your ilon and DSL modem, but sounds like you are going directly from your ilon to the DSL modem and then out on internet, and you are using the DYNDNS feature of ilon itself. I have not yet tried this new feature of ilon, but have many times tried the same setup but with a router in between where the router had the DYNDNS client running on it.
So, to cut it short still look at what ports you are using on ilon as webserver port.

I agree with Amigo comments, I have several iLon's on dynamic IP's, all using routers. I always use a different port because provider's will block 80 and 8080, the only problem I have is that many Linksys routers will not allow you to use FTP on any port other than 21, but that is not a problem unless the customer is using another FTP server.

It sounds like you need to setup port forwarding on your DSL router. Give your ilon a static IP address using the console app. (like 192.168.1.222) and then configure the following ports in the DSL router setup app to forward traffic recieved to the static IP assigned to the iLON100;
Port 80 -- http
Port 21 -- ftp
Port 23 -- telnet
Port 1628 -- LNS
Port 1629 -- LNS
Hiopefully your DSL router supports dnydns. If so, you'll need to create an outbound connection that will cause the DSL router to update the dyndns server when the IP address changes from your ISP. In the iLON web page setup, I create a web-bind from a datapoint that heartbeats out every 5 minutes to another ilon.
Good luck!

Wow Talk about a flashback, I used to run service on both islands 10 years ago. Eagertown, Vinyard Haven, Nantucket, Very nice place to visit. EXCEPT IN THE WINTER!!!!!! Good Luck with your iLon

DMZ'd

I am the tech for Nelson Mech and we tried DMZing the static IP of the ILON wich would bypass any port forwarding. There may be residential blocks in place but it works fine on our dynamic cable connection, the DSL is PPOE and that may be a factor, it has not owrked on 2 connections, both Verizon and 1 had an older modem that has no settings in it. all others have been DMZ'd and we forwarded ports...ANy ideas would be great, we will contact verizon and see waht they have to say...

try taking it out of DMZ,
change webserver to something like 8181,
setup proper port forwarding in router.

Exposing ilon in DMZ, for critical jobs, is a mistake. iLON security needs improvement, in my opinion, and can be relatively easily hacked.
For residential jobs this may be fine, if critical operation is not exposed through ilon.

Had a similar problem with a Jace and found that Verizon was blocking port 80 inbound.
Changed the default port to 81 and forwarded 81 from the WAN side to the LAN address of the Jace and it worked fine.
Never worked on one Im sure you can change the default HTTP port of the ilon

Ports for the iLON are set up in the iLON 'Service' configuration pages in the 'Setup / Security' section. You will have to do a 'security access reset' to change these settings.
