I have a manitowoc I - 450. Recently I have been getting a full bin message intermittently when bin is not full. This happens and delays the start of the next ice cycle for a few minutes sometimes and sometimes it stays full bin until mode is switched to program or manual. Also if I pass a free hand magnet in the area of the switch it will restart an ice cycle. I have changed the switch side of the sensor to a new switch but the problem still persists. Could it be the sealed magnet on the water curtain or something else?

Can the magnet side of a manitowoc water curtain go bad?

Any other ideas.

Next time you have a problem. Gently pull the door off/open and push on the magnet side of the water curtain to see if the curtain moves just a little & the machine starts. The icer could be out of level. A left behind ice cube might be holding the curtain open, The 'arms/holes' that holds the curtain in place might be worn/burred/sticking, holding the curtain open just a little.

Since this machine was almost due for a 6 month cleaning I went ahead and did it today.

Ran the normal clean cycle and cleaned all the parts but also used a soft tooth brush the clean each cube on the evaporator. Didn’t look bad but saw where some machines could hang up ice on there.

Also saw where the weather strip between the machine and bin was pulling off on 3 sides this possibly could have been throwing the machine slightly off of level causing the intermittent full bin problem. Replaced all the weather strip all the way around.

It has been back up and making ice since around 9am no false full bin that I know of.

Thanks again for the tips and help

What techterry said. Double check all that and make sure the machine is level. Make sure the whole sheet is thick enough and that no stray cubes leave the curtain open.

I actually have had a weak magnet in the curtain and had to replace the curtain. Come to think of it, I've also had weird/erratic switches too.

Check their continuity carefully. Should always be either OL or 0. Open or closed.
I've had some do weird things like read 873ohms, 1.3kohms, and vary like that when opened and closed.
That will make the machine act very erratic. I've also had the ice/off/wash switch do this as well.
Had one machine that kept repeating the startup sequence over and over and over. Thought it was the board but that little switch had developed weird resistances thru it.
