ok, I had a QYo454A that had a bad evap, I also had a BD0603W with no refrigerant in it soooooooooo, i took the evap from the BD and put it on the Qy, it makes full sheets in 10-16 minutes depending on the ambient, the curtian is the same for either machine according to Mani, everyonce in a while it will produce a double slab, one slab is off of the evap and it will go back into freeze, the thickness probe is out on the first slab, and I get a fault of a 60min freeze....harvest is not accuring until the water pump turns back on as soon as it does, the slab drops. Any thoughts, I have not had time to mess with it but am thinking bin switch, and or shorten harvest time.

The bin switch has nothing to do with the ice falling off slow.

I've seen some "bad evaps" drop ice just fine.

:.02: I think there was something else wrong with the machine before you changed the evap and it is still a problem.

I agree somewhat... the evap removed had pitts in it and copper exposed, so someone finished the evap for me... now my issues have arrisen when I am at 60 degrees ambient, most of the time the ice drops but just slow, my discharge temp 6" from the comp at the beginning of harvest is not 160, more like 140. i will work up all the data on it soon, but for now it will sit in my shop as it is mine to fix, or for that matter not fix, I really like IM's but I am green... it is a good experience any guidance would be appreciated.

I noticed in the service manual a flooding TXV, as a possible issue what do they mean by flooding? flooding in freeze, not allowing discharge pressure to rise? or something else?

that's right in freeze an overfeeding TXV keeps the compressor temp low.

Also make sure the condenser fan is cycling correctly.

Compressor is probably fine if your making ice that quickly.

Make sure Its Level , Clean , Properly charged , and that the Alco TXV is not there , (danfoss) , The system doesn't know what plates in there , Cant remember if that Unit has the HPR valve in it that reg head pressure, if so make sure your getting 90 PSI back pressure in harvest .

60 degree ambient 200 head in freeze, 33 suction, 140 discharge temp at beginning of harvest, head is 125 in harvest, and 75 suction, I shot a little charge to it, it raised my pressure and my discharge at the start of harvest but still not to 160-pulled charge, it had the speced charge plus the extra I added, txv (alco) is insulated and bulb is mounted correctly and insulated, I am thinking it is not modulating, will have to check the bulb also, Mani wants too much for the danfoss TXV,they are insane on parts.

thank you for the guidance, my experience with IM's has been on the water side, that is where the prob usually is and I do not stand in front of as many machines as I would like to.

If you use something other than a Danfoss to replace and it works well ,let me know. Manitowoc has been anal with only using Danfoss as the replacement and I can't afford to be wrong at this time with my customers

Fan Cycle is opening at 175 and closing at 200 unlike the manual specs 200/250, cycled fan manually and it droped ice in 90 seconds at a 53degree ambient, the cycle switch looks like it must be brazed in is that correct??, if so how dumb...although it does prevent a leaking risk

The fan cycle switch is brazed. It is not hard to change out if you have a pinch -off tool. Did you check the voltage to see if this is truely the switch issue?

A pinch-off tool is the way to go with this.It is worth the 30 dollars if you don't have one. otherwise you will have to evacuate.

yes it is level, cycled the fan (pluged and unpluged to cut in at 250 and cut out at 200 and it dropped ice in 90second on at 53 ambient. cycle switch is opening and closing just aout of wack with pressures.
