Any suggestions for backing up a heat pump system
I just purchased a 2000 sq ft circa 1920s two story stucco home in Richmond,Va. The previous owner installed a dual zone heat pumps about 1 year ago. The location of the home does not have natural gas service.
upstairs - 1.5ton Ducane Heat pump w/ a 2ton rated air handler
Down stairs- 1.5ton Ducane Heat pump w/ a 2ton rated air handler
The last few nights have been in the 20s and it is apparent that the two heat pump systems will not effectivily heat his home.Since the home does not have a fireplace I figured that a propane (no natural gas in area) vent-free fireplace would be a good addition to the existing heat pump systems.
Another alternative would be to replace the downstairs unit with a propane burning system.... I would prefer not going this route since both existing systems are brand new.
..hat other ideas can you guys come up with to supplement the existing dual heatpump system?
BTW - Since the ceilings down stairs are 11 feet and the ceilings upstairs are 8.5 feet I have considered replacing the downstairs 1.5ton condenser with a 2 ton condenser (which may help out w/ cooling in the summer time)since the air handler and coil are 2ton rated.
