Hi,
First post here, I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge on this forum
utergreet:
I've got one of the infamous LG linear compressor fridges. I bought is as-is to replace my primary fridge, since in years past I've been able to buy a broken used fridge and get it running again by replacing some $** part. I'm more up to speed now on the whole LG compressor failures stuff, but this fridge appears to have already had a newer compressor installed under warranty. There's refrigerant valves brazed onto it, and a software update sticker on the motherboard panel.
Date code: 2016.05
Product code: GC-L28AGSXM.ASTCNA1
Compressor: LG FLS075LANA BR1NSVC
The fridge will run, but struggles to reach temperature. If I set the digital thermostat to 33F, it will eventually reach the desired 37F temp in the fridge, but the freezer will not go anywhere near 0F. The compressor appears to run continuously, and gets "hot" enough that holding my hand to it is uncomfortable.
I found the troubleshooting PDFs in this hvac-talk thread: 2206808-LG-Linear-Compressor-with-Dual-eval-not-cooling
And went out to test the connector 201. The start capacitor tested good. But when I tried testing the inverter voltage (plug fridge in, wait 30s, press the test button, wait 30s, check voltage) I saw it creep up to ~120VAC and then my multimeter started just glitching between 0VAC, 5VAC, and 68VAC over and over. I'm not sure if that points to the inverter board being bad, or my multimeter struggling to interpret the signal as AC voltage...
I'd appreciate any tips to troubleshoot further. If I can confirm the compressor is toast then I can at least have some closure here :beat:
