Lennox Variable Speed Air Handler S30 adjusting fan speed?

My Dad is licensed in HVAC. He's mostly worked on fixing/maintaining systems and not install them as much but is helping me with adding a third zone in my house for the building/installer doesn't think there is an issue with the front bedrooms needing the air adjusted to keep them comfortable. (If you don't adjust the damper to give different amounts of air for different seasons, in the middle of the night the front bedrooms get over 80 degrees but once adjusting the damper it's usually within 1 to 2 degrees of the rest of the house)

The air handler is a Lennox CBX25UHV and know with the Lennox zoning system and Lennox S30 thermostat, you can adjust the variable fan speed for different CFM's for different zones on the S30. It seems from reading around the Lennox system connects up to theair handler (via the DS terminal?!?) to adjust the fan speed. Does anybody know how it controls the fan speed? Is it like a CAN Bus type thing or just use a vary of voltage to change the fan speed? Was curious what your opinion is on how Lennox does this control.

The builder went with Aprilaire zoning and thermostats so trying to stick with them for already have a good amount of them in the house and also Aprilaire is a more reasonably priced setup at this time. In talking with my Dad about the variable sized systems in the future when we replace this system might need a new/upgraded thermostat setup and who knows what might be out then so upgrade to a new thermostat system then is the plan.

CBX25 is Merit series - not a communicating air handler. So you couldn't use the iHarmony system - you would use the older non communicating Harmony III system. The variable speed blower would be ramped via a PWM signal on the DS terminal based on which zones are calling. Any thermostat (Aprilaire included) would work with that system, S30 not needed and probably wouldn't be the best choice.
