lennox blower won't run when warm

we have an older lennox G8 gas furnace/ac system. our problem is whether you are running the ac or the furnace, it kicks on and runs normally for the first cycle. after that when it tries to kick in again after the thermostat tells it to, it won't run the blower. It acts like it is trying to and the motor won't hardly turn, even by helping it. motor blower does turn very easily when not hot. It will continue to try to keep kicking in even after turning the thermostat setting to off. You can only get it to stop by pulling the disconnecting the power at the panel. If you let it completely cool down for about thirty minutes it will then kick in and run normal.. For ONE cycle and then you have to turn it offf at the thermostat so that it does not try to kick on again. Wait thirty minutes and turn it back on. I am guessing the capacitor??? or that other little box/ controller???? Not familiar with this type of motor. No starter?????

Sounds like it may be going out on over load. You let it cool and it will work again. I would call a tech to diagnose it further to make sure what the issue is exactly.

The future isn't what it use to be.

i guess i will see what the motor is pulling (amps) while running, but don't think that is it. I can check to see if the capacitor is putting out the right volts, correct?? Has been this way for almost two years. we just let it run and then shut it off before it tries to kick on again. and then after some time you can turn it on again. had a tech come when it started and he did not seem too knowledgeable. Oiled the motor!!?? never made any diff. nearest one has to come about an hour. Don't want to spend any money on this hvac system that must be 40 years old. We have only owned it about 5 years and the elderly couple that had it the previous 50 years always had it professionaly serviced every year

you need a tech. dont fool with this stuff. telling me that you want to check the volts of the capacitor says you dont know what you are getting into.

we are not able to give out diy troubleshooting information. it is against the site rules.

have a merry christmas

A 55 year old system if I'm doing the math correctly.

I think the best christmas gift you can give to yourself and your family might just be a replacement system.

You are likely throwing half of every heating dollar up the chimney if it is that efficient.

That's not the original furnace, Lennox didn't make the g8 55 years ago. Likely the heat exchanger is cracked, especially if its been running on high limit due to a bad motor.
Get a good contractor out to limp you a long and provide a quote for replacement. Likely, your G8 is oversized and wasting your money
