Found a Carrier 48KHA with the usual panel hanging by one screw. Caught some nice footage of it as well.

I assure you my underpants are fine and I still have all my hair.

I held the phone at arms length.

Well mine wouldn't be once that first flash happened.

Fun fun fun!

Also, I see I'm not the only one that has "field engineered" those old Johnson Controls G60 combination gas valve/ignition controls to use use a modern spark ignition module. :D
It's funny how every time a manufacturer tries to combine a gas valve and an ignition control (which are both pretty reliable on their own) it immediately turns the result into a huge piece of garbage like the g60 and smartvalve

Holy crap, that sucks. Same thing happened to me on one of my rare resi call. Customer hears loud bang when unit runs. Find furnace in basement, cabinet side 12" from block wall blocked on other 3 sides. Without thinking I try to start it and get pilot and hear gas open but no flame. Go to reach around to disconnect and boom. There goes my arm hair. You could still smell the stink I left in her basement when I s**t my pants.

I wish I had video of the "Belching Dragon" I worked on back in the 90's.

Lennox whisper heat with a failed proving switch for the damper, that the homeowner had tried to fix himself.
Somehow he managed to get the wires screwed around to the point that the gas valve would open at the same time the damper started to open.
Once the damper opened far enough to make its proving switch, the ignitor would start sparking.
The furnace was an upflow in a closet, and I was bent over watching the startup sequence, and failed to notice that the gas valve had gotten energized...

Use your imagination from there.

Lets just say that my first stop after that call was my barber.

Damn dudes...what part of "customer reports loud bang upon start up" do you not understand? :)
