i change out a unit for customer,it is 2.5 tons lennox r410 heat pump, custermor said it wont do the heating or cooling,i take home hook it up vacuum, pump in freon, start with heating mode, both high and lowside have same pressure, and compressor is running amp draw from compressor is normal about 3amp,4way valve all pipe is about same temp i feel it by hand, when i switch it to cooling mode,it does the same thing no temp change, and pressure is the same also(about 145 lbs)and 4 way valve does click and have 26 volt to it,i test selnoid valve with ohm it read 15,is that ok,and when i running i heating mode i jump the wire to o and 4 way valve make sissling sound,is that mean reversing valve is shifting?so it maybe the compressor mechnicaly bad?cause winding reading is ok?

Do we know this to be fact?

How did he get professional member status?

Licenses? Perhaps, depending on his jurisdictions....Federal Tax ID and DBA are not necessary if he is working by himself under his own name. Just his own name and Social Security number will suffice.

To be honest. I wouldn't have a problem with it. If he charged accordingly and paid his dues by developing his skills before going out on his own. Reminds me of a guy i met on a rooftop. The compressor kept tripping on high head. He couldn't figure it out. I walked up and told him to put the side panel on when taking readings as to not bypass the condensor air! :grin2:

Trust. Me, I don't agree with anyone bringing down our trade. However, you have to blame the authorities who pick and choose what professions to prosecute those practicing without proper testing and licensing. Instead, they are more concerned with prosecuting the legally acting professionals over questionable law some mental giant, that doesn't contain a mechanically inclined bone in his body, came up with, or some ridiculous code that doesn't make a bit of difference in the performance or quality of a job.
Hacks don't have money, so it's useless to spend the time to find and fine them. They prosecute those who have something to lose.

I hate to be ugly to the guy if he needs help, HOWEVER what I said about protecting the trade is very important to me. As KB COOL said about paying his dues, that is where you get your tech skills from, not just waking up one day and quitting your job at burger king to start an a/c repair service and expect us that worked so hard to get to this point to carry him along. I LOVE helping other techs all that I can, but I feel like he cut to the head of the line passing all the work/ experience needed to be called a technician.

I totally agree....but at this point, we really don't know anything much about him.....Licensing, training, experience, etc....but we DO know that he attained "pro" status.

Calling a guy an illegal Cuban hustler without knowing his story isn't quite just.

If poor grammar, spelling, and composition rendered one unqualified to play in our sand box, there's a LOT of fellas here that would be out of luck.....:det:

This has actually turned into a good thread though going a little OT.
I agree with John & I also gotta give Pony credit for having the guts to keep asking questions after all the bashing he keeps getting. I'm guilty of some of it myself. Sometimes an honest person tends to give more info than needed & it gets used against them like what happened here. It wasn't just the question about diagnosing a RV but the circumstances surrounding it that had us speculating about all kinds of things. Perhaps its better to talk about specific diagnostics in the pro section.

There is a vast ocean of difference between the concepts of "different from what you are used to" and "unprofessional and incorrect."

This thread started with the latter. If Pony wants to start a charity, then he should. Charity is noble. it helps those who need help.

Charity and business are not the same thing. If Pony hopes to have a business, he is off to a miserable start, because he is not working within the framework in which every successful business must operate: according to the rules of civil law, and the general laws of economics.

So, if he is opting for a Business, then there is no such thing as "different from what they are used to."

I Realy didn't want to get into this but wow. Do you talk to your customers the way you type. You would almost have to and as it has been said about your questions about service don't you think you should consider sticking with installs a little longer and take a course or two for service rather than learn at the customers expense. Maybe 3. I don't want to knock you but there is nothing wrong with being a good installer and learning service at your own expense. You have a computer start googling. And I've never heard of a reversing valve called a 4 way valve I though you were working on a Minni split.
Sorry if this sounded rude.

..........And I've never heard of a reversing valve called a 4 way valve .................
4 way valve is synonymous to a reversing valve, its just not as commonly used today as RV.

and in matter of fact,i do much more install then repair, most of time if i have question about repair is some old equipment i swap out from customer or the one i buy from the craigslist, and i do have shop set up for testing equipment in my home,i have consider school before, and some tech in my area i know they said it take a long time and realy u dont get a whole lots hands on experiences, inmagine if everybody in hvac class put they hands on the equipment hook it up test it how mcuh time will take for each one of them,

snapperhead,u r right,i dont have much overhead, only thing i have is gas for my cargo van and my insurance, and maybe one day i will have my building,if that happen mean i have more business,is that what happen with ur business getting bigger?if u dont have lots business, what is use for get a bigger building?make sense?

#122 ·
You have the upper hand though. You have installed the equipment and have seen all the parts and prices the classes will give you the understanding of the parts you have already seen. It should come to you much easier. A lot of the supply houses in our area have night courses that may go from a day or two to a week and are usually inexpensive and from what I remember the were theory and hands on. If its possible for you I would look into it. Start with the basic course and go from there. I think the guies here would be more willing to help if they didn't feel as if they were doing your service calls for you. Maybe consider explaining what you have done in the correct manor and why you are having troubles with it not this isn't working can you tell me why. Take the courses you will be glad you did. There is a difference in never looking at a system and taking a class than installing systems and then taking a class.

:putergreet:

I put my money on south Florida.
Did I read that right- bought equipment off craigslist. I wouldn't buy a pair of socks off craigslist.
Also I can't beleive you guys are buying this crapola off this dude. There is not a legal bone in his buisiness structure.
And as far as pro membership or whatever title you give to 15 or more threads I don't need a title to feel warranted. Hi John . It's all good.
Also just the fact that Ponyboy can't push the caps button probably is a reflection of his work/ yes I know John my typing or english comp. is far from perfect.
And if name calling was a basis for being banned all or most would be by now.

COIL CLEANER,I KNOW ONE THING,THERE IS SO MANY PROBLEM IN THE WORLD CAUSE PEOPLES LIKE U,ALLWAYS TRY TO START SOME TROUBLE,INSTEAD TRY TO FIND THE SOLUTION,EVERY RESPOND U HAVE EITHER MAKE FUN OF ME OR ATTACK ME IN THE WAY,I BID U CANT EVEN REMENBER WHEN IS LAST TIME U DONE SOMETHING GOOD FOR SOMEBODY ELSE?

#138 ·
AT LEAST YOU KNOW HOW TO YELL. As far as my good deeds I don't brag about them; you obviously have a need too. I do start trouble where warranted. Why don't you tell us the name of your company and where it is located? I know why because it is non existant. I would never judge someone for doing what they have to do to survive and get by but you are projecting an image of a professional belevolent legal entity which is untrue because you don't have a buisiness license. The only reason you have insurance on your van is because you have to, by the way that will not cover real property damage. Also how would a guy like you have more installs than repairs, makes no sense unless you condemn every unit you look at, very questionable, and how do these people afford this equopment unless it's hot or used. I know wealthy true blooded Americans will boot you as soon as you speak broken english in their houses. Every company I ever worked for had all broken English types hauling parts or installing, never up front communicating with customer. I am from cali. I have seen how it works with large influxes of illegals, peace out.
