I have a 6 amp motor running 18 amps measured after the VFD

a few things to consider...

1. you probably don't have a meter that can accurately read the amps or volts on the output side of the drive...i see the brand of meter...model?
2. depending on the type of drive you have (and options) your meter may not be able to read the input side very accurately either. your true RMS meter will probably be ok on the input side. i am not very familiar with fieldpiece and their products. many true RMS meters can handle harmonics but only at a nominal 60 Hz. if you change the hertz (like in your case), they do not work well. perhaps yours does...investigate and know what your meters can and can't do.
